Journal Description

ISSN: 0044-118X  Online ISSN: 1552-8499

Youth & Society is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journal that focuses on issues related to the 10-24 year old population. We are interested in both U.S. and global adolescent populations. We do not publish studies with sampling from university students. Although the adolescent period is the focus of the journal, transitional issues from childhood to adolescence and from adolescence to adulthood are also of interest. Relevant topics include a wide array of issues ranging from individual level factors to policy concerns pertinent to adolescence. We are particularly interested in the social, contextual, and political factors that influence healthy and harmful adolescent development. We are open to a range of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

The journal includes studies from diverse disciplines including but not limited to:

  • Psychology
  • Public Health
  • Sociology
  • Education
  • Social Work
  • Criminology
  • Anthropology
  • Political Science

Youth & Society is published 6 times a year. We provide researchers, educators, counselors, and policy makers with the latest research and scholarship in this dynamic field. The journal is a valuable resource that examines critical contemporary issues and presents both theoretical and applied information that is vital to those studying and working with adolescence. We also publish theme issues and sections devoted to special topics that are particularly germane for the field.

This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
